The 2024 Climate Literacy Guide is now live!

Today, the U.S. Global Change Research Program released the 3rd edition of the nation's Climate Literacy Guide. It presents information that is important for individuals and communities to know and understand about Earth's climate, impacts of climate change and climate solutions.

In 2009, the Climate Literacy Guide was developed by the U.S. Global Change Research Program and its member agencies along with scientific and educational partners. Over the past decade, this guide has played a crucial role in various climate change education initiatives, influencing federal, local government, and privately funded projects. It has been a cornerstone for educators, policymakers, and scientists globally, leading to the inclusion of climate change in the Next Generation Science Standards. The Guide itself provides essential information on Earth's climate, the impacts of climate change, and strategies for adaptation and mitigation.

One of CLEAN's goals is to help teachers be as effective as possible when teaching the essential principles of climate science. With the newly released Principles, CLEAN offers a series of web pages that introduce climate science in a sequence that illustrates different aspects of the climate system. Natural and human influences on climate are presented here, as well as the effects of interactions between parts of Earth's systems. Taken together, these concepts describe climate literacy.
