Webinar Description

The Earth's magnetic field extends from its interior to outer space, interacting with space weather. It is why we can navigate the planet using GPS, how animals know where to migrate, and protect us from harmful radiation and cosmic rays. Created by a team of NOAA scientists, the MagVar app helps anyone understand how the magnetic field changes, conduct local experiments and support ongoing global research! In this panel, we'll hear from two undergraduate students, Jae Robinson and Holly McCrory, and geophysicist Aamna Sirohey, who use this app to further our understanding of this geophysical phenomena.

Webinar Goals

  • Learn from early career geophysicist and undergraduates how they utilized this research in their education
  • Learn about Geomagnetism and why it is important to our planet
  • Get audience excited about MagVar, the citizen science app and collect data on their smartphone
  • Target undergraduate students and educators in utilizing this app in their work
