COP27 Presentation by Eric Havel & Deb Morrison

Bios:

Eric Havel: Ericis a senior professional development facilitator with the Community Resources for Science. He focuses on designing and delivering climate and sustainability education programs for youth through adults. He is currently working on a few large-scale collaborative projects including a partnership with the Future Food Institute to share at COP 27 international efforts to raise awareness about how our food choices and agricultural systems can help solve the climate crisis as well as helping to develop a K-12 climate education curriculum to be used by educators throughout the state of California.

He holds a degree in Environmental Science from the University of California, Berkeley and has more than 30 years of experience in science education. Last year he had the unique opportunity to create and share this short 3-minute video about his own personal climate story at the United Nations COP 26 International Climate Conference that took place in Glasgow, Scotland. He is working on a new project to share additional climate stories about at the COP 27 taking place this November in Egypt.

Eric is a current and founding member of MuseumExpert.org. He co-leads our Communications and Marketing Team which is responsible for production and distribution of this monthly newsletter and social media campaigns. Eric also serves on the Alameda County Waste Management and Recycling Boardand as a Climate Reality Project Leader. In his spare time, Eric enjoys bicycling, composting with worms, camping in the redwoods, and exploring Oakland's many farmers markets.

Deb Morrison: Dr. Deb L. Morrison works at the intersection of justice, climate science, and learning. She is a climate and anti-oppression activist, scientist, learning scientist, educator, mother, locally elected official, and many other things besides. Deb works in research-practice-policy partnerships from local community to international scales. She works to iteratively understand complex socio-ecological systems through design-based and action-oriented research while at the same time seeking to improve human-environment relationships and sustainability. Dr. Morrison draws on an eclectic range of justice theory to inform her work in the world and to foster her continued journey for transformative liberation. She is a well-published author on diverse topics that intersect with climate justice learning and continues to foster collaborative writing partnerships across disciplines and communities that have historically been disconnected.
