CAMEL OBJECTIVES

Pioneer new cyberinfrastructure that will support and promote the creation of best available scientific information for climate change education and build a community of researchers, educators, and students forwarding the knowledge of climate change causes, consequences, and solutions.

  • Develop and vet shared materials, ensuring that they follow the highest educational practices;
  • Evaluate the determinants of successful cyber media community-building;
  • Assist undergraduate faculty as they create, improve, test, and share resources to identify climate change issues, and formulate solutions.

MILESTONE
More than 130 educators expressed interest in assisting with CAMEL

CURRENT PROGRESS

  • Created prototype framework and website
  • Developed a survey to identify community and faculty development needs and opportunities
  • Identified cyberinfrastructure (Encyclopedia of Earth – http://www.eoearth.org/)
  • Presented at CEDD summer 2009 and winter 2010 meetings, Association for Environmental Studies and Sciences

NEXT STEPS

2010: Orient "pilot participant group" to CAMEL and solicit their participation and recommendations.

  • May - Introduce CAMEL via webinars
  • July - Workshops (AESS and CEDD)
  • Introduce CAMEL at national meetings

2011 – 2012:Expand CAMEL user-base

  • Launch CAMEL website (January 2011)
  • Broaden the CAMEL community
