Teaching Tips
- Extension could be to "adopt" a location near the school that is taken care of by the class.
- If possible consider extending activity duration to at a full hour or more.
About the Content
- Observation and connection with the natural world have been the catalyst for many of science's greatest discoveries. This lesson can help to serve as an introduction to the scientific process.
- Passed initial science review - expert science review pending.
About the Pedagogy
- The impact and success of this lesson will be increased by providing students with an example/model that teachers create in advance to share. This lesson asks students to be vulnerable by sharing a place that is special to them, and that may not be comfortable to all. To help develop a willingness to share, consider trying some of the other activities in this lesson set such as the Emotions Wheel and Active Listening Skills.
