Carbon dioxide in the atmosphere over the past 400,000 years. The difference between the natural rhythm of the ice ages and the exponential rise of CO2 over the past 100 years is starkly apparent. Humans have altered the composition of Earth's atmosphere, and therefore we have also changed Earth's energy balance.
