Resources for Researchers

This collection provides a number of resources to help researchers effectively integrate research results into education and outreach activities. The goal is to develop seamless connections between scientific discoveries and effective instructional practices at the undergraduate level.

Broader Impacts

The Broader Impacts collection is a series of websites and related resources developed for principal investigators of research projects. This collection includes on-line resources related to NSF's Broader Impacts criterion.

Incentives and Related Materials

NSF, NASA and other geoscience agencies are encouraging integration of research and education in their funded projects. This collection includes the Bridges Report, a 2002 NSF workshop report that provides a rational for integrating research and education.

Tips on Assessment, Evaluation and Dissemination

This collection is part of the Teaching Biocomplexity in the Geosciences Project. It includes on-line resources, reports, and examples that help to support education and outreach activities associated with research projects.

Tips on Partnering

This collection is part of the Teaching Biocomplexity in the Geosciences Project. It includes resources and examples of successful partnerships between researchers and educators that aid in developing successful broader impacts projects.

Council on Undergraduate Research

The Council of Undergraduate Research provides a wealth of information about initiating and sustaining undergraduate research programs, including on-line resources, publications (e.g. the CUR Quarterly), and a series of regional workshops.

Examples of Broader Impact Projects

Microbial Observatories (MO)

This collection is part of the Microbial Life Project. It showcases research projects funded through the NSF/BIO Microbial Observatory program. The researchers, research methods and results are presented to introduce the scientific questions and key findings to the general public, and connections are made to suggested instructional activities related to the research.

Analytical Instrument Registry

This collection is part of the Teaching Petrology in the 21st Century Project. It is a "matchmaking" service that helps make connections between analytical facilities and potential faculty or student users. Through this collection, lab managers can expand their user base, students and faculty can access instruments not locally available to support teaching and research, and NSF investments in instrumentation are optimized.

Geochronology Laboratory Survey

This survey was conducted to determine the geochronologic capacity of laboratories in the United States by polling a) lab managers to determine the current state of instrumentation, b) the extent to which current geochronology facilities are meeting the needs of researchers who rely on geochronology results, and c) to provide guidance for future development of geochronology facilities.
